Captain’s Evil Genius's Log: March 17, 2010

I've only just begun the laborious process of designing and building a highly complex robotic manipulator system which will serve as the basic template for my robotic army. Without sympathy, remorse, or hesitation, it will follow my every command as my plot for complete and utter world domination unfolds.

The design is still in its infancy, and attempting to predict its final permutation would be an inherently futile exercise. Nevertheless, after many many hours of work, its evolutionary path has started to become clear.

 

This design will have its motors mounted on the base to keep their large mass from negatively impacting the machine's performance. It will thus be necessary to transfer the rotational motion of the stepper motors up the arm somehow. It might be possible to achieve this by using numerous gears along the inside of the arm; however, whether or not this will work remains to be seen.

The initial attempt at cutting out the parts and assembling them was less than satisfactory. My first minion proved itself to be unworthy of the task. The arm's gears do not mesh together tightly like they should. My CNC/minion needs to undergo repairs and software backlash compensation will have to be added.  

New parts will have to be created after the repairs are made. The design itself still needs tweaking too and, overall, is still far from finished.
